New Orleans advances to title game with 20-5 victory over Philadelphia

The defending champion New Orleans Boosters advanced to the title game in the 76th AAABA Tournament with a 20-5 victory over the Philadelphia Bandits on Friday, Aug. 6 in the afternoon game at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point.

The battle of previously undefeated teams turned out to be a slugfest, with New Orleans collecting 19 hits to Philadelphia’s 13 hits.

The Boosters (5-0) scored 11 runs in the top of the ninth to break open the contest. Philadelphia (4-1) was eliminated.

New Orleans advanced to face the winner of Friday night’s semifinal round contest between host Johnstown Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors and the New Brunswick Matrix.

New Orlean’s Christian Westcott went 5-for-7 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs. Josh Alexander went 4-for-6 with two runs and five RBIs. He had a two-run homer over the brick wall in left-center field and a double. Bryan Broussard had a double and a triple among his three hits.

Philadelphia’s Owen Petrich had two hits and three RBIs, and Trey Obarowski had three hits and two runs for the Bandits.
