AAABA Bomb Squad continues tradition during 72nd tournament

August 5, 2016

The Bomb Squad has become a big part of the AAABA Tournament experience over the years.

The Bomb Squad lifts the spirits of Johnstown players and their fans by providing loud booms at key junctures and momentum swings throughout the hometeam’s tournament run.

The members gather atop the hillside overlooking Point Stadium to set off explosives to celebrate key hits, runs, and, especially, wins – for Johnstown’s representatives.

Less than a week before the 72nd annual event got underway, Russell Kindya, a founder of the Bomb Squad, died.

His family and friends considered not continuing the tradition that has been a beloved part of the games over the past two decades.

But they came back, paying tribute to their loved family member, as did tournament organizers with a moment of silence. The AAABA Tournament appreciates the family’s dedication and its support of the tournament.
