Cory Isenberg covered the AAABA Tournament throughout her 35-year career as a sports writer with The Tribune-Democrat.
Isenberg died of cancer on April 28 at age 64.
Her colleagues at the newspaper took steps to rename an annual award, formerly known as the Home Plate Award, which is presented to the Johnstown Collegiate Baseball League champion. The JCBL champ represents Johnstown in the night games during AAABA week.
Beginning this year, the plaque will bear the name Cory Isenberg Award.
An item about the name change tops The Tribune-Democrat’s Sidelights notebook column in the July 31 edition.
Other Sidelights include items about New Orleans’ flying directly into Johnstown for the first time in 75 appearances, the Carolina Disco Turkeys’ hot-hitting shortstop, the radio tandem of Don Stanton and John DeFazio, the Cleveland B2 Bulls and a strong showing by a Altoona Johnston Realty player.
