The AAABA Tournament will utilize pool play in the 72nd annual tournament this August in Johnstown, Pa.
Pool play will be implemented on a one-year trial basis with the possibility of being part of the long-term future of the 16-team tournament, which previously had used a double-defeat elimination format since 1945.
The change was made during the AAABA national meeting in Orlando, Florida, on March 6.
In other developments, Altoona’s John Austin is the new AAABA national president. Austin also will serve as co-executive director with AAABA veteran Bob Wolfe.
