The annual AAABA Youth Clinic was a success on Sunday, Aug. 4 as approximately 50 young ballplayers gathered at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point to learn about baseball.

The clinic was held with the support of the Johnstown Oldtimers Baseball Association and The Tribune-Democrat.

Area coaches and players offered their service as well as former major leaguers and AAABA Hall of Famers Nelson Figueroa of Brooklyn and Gene Pentz of Johnstown. Figueroa was inducted into the AAABA Hall on Saturday night.

Another Hall of Famer, former Johnstown manager and Cleveland Indians scout Dee Dee Osborne coordinated much of the clinic, which had the youth players rotating from multiple stations to work on fielding, pitching. catching, baserunning and batting.

The clinic and a AAABA Tournament alumni softball game on Sunday afternoon helped in the build up to the 75th annual AAABA Tournament, which will begin on Monday, Aug. 5.
