Former AAABA Tournament player from Johnstown pitching for Altoona Curve in Class Double-A

Former Martella’s Pharmacy left-handed pitcher Trey McGough has advanced to the Class AA Altoona Curve in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

McGough graduated from Ferndale Area High School in Johnstown and stood out at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland before the Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 24th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

McGough had a solid year in the minors that summer but like many others in the pro game, he didn’t have a place to play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He began this season in High A but earned a promotion to the Curve, which plays only a 40-minute drive from his hometown of Johnstown, where he was part of the Martella’s Pharmacy AAABA Tournament team.
