Free Youth Clinic Returns to Point Stadium in advance of AAABA Tournament

August 5, 2017

The Johnstown Oldtimers, city of Johnstown and The Tribune-Democrat again will host a free youth baseball clinic from noon to 2 p.m. on the turf field that will be used by AAABA Tournament teams the next day.

All players 12 and under from leagues across the Cambria-Somerset-Bedford counties region are welcome.

Clinic coaches will include:

• Dee Dee Osborne, scout for the Cleveland Indians and AAABA Hall of Fame member.

• Gene Pentz, former player for the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers and AAABA Hall of Fame member.

• Ricky Britt, former player in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ system and AAABA Hall of Fame member.

• Eric Dinyar, former Detroit Tigers prospect and 2017 AAABA Hall of Fame inductee.

• Ross Kott, former AAABA and Johnstown Steal player and AAABA Hall of Fame member.

• Garry Wurm, who played in the Pirates minor league system and coaches at Blacklick Valley High School.

• Rick Roberts, who pitched in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and operates the ERA/Flood City Elite program.

• George Roberts, Pitt-Johnstown assistant coach who was in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

• Jim Mayer, who played in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization.

• Local standouts Queenteen Robinson and Chance Osborne.

• Kevin Kime, head coach at Mount Aloysius.

• Todd Williams, head coach at Pitt-Johnstown

• Chris Pfeil, head coach at Bishop McCort Catholic High School and Martella’s Pharmacy general manager.

• Kerry Pfeil, head coach at Greater Johnstown High School.

Osborne, who organized the coaches for the youth clinic, said it is possible that Tom Walter, a AAABA Hall of Famer and the head coach at Wake Forest, might also attend.

The baseball clinic is a fundraiser for The Tribune-Democrat’s Santa Fund, which provides gifts at Christmas for area children whose families are facing financial hardship. Donations will be accepted at the stadium’s main gate.
