Johnstown-2 Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors is back in the AAABA Tournament semifinals after a 7-1 victory over previously undefeated New Brunswick Matrix on Thursday afternoon at Point Stadium.
Paul Carpenter advanced to the 2016 AAABA Tournament title game and finished as runner-up.
The Johnstown-2 team will face defending AAABA Tournament champion Zanesville Junior Pioneers on Friday in a rematch of last year’s title game and the opening round of this year’s tournament.
The Junior Pioneers won both of those contests.
For a second straight year, New Brunswick went undefeated in pool play, only to lose in the single-elimination round.
The Matrix stranded 14 baserunners against Johnstown-2.
Paul Carpenter’s Reno Rainey, the Johnstown league MVP, had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. His triple helped break open a close contest.
