Julio Lugo used AAABA Tournament as a springboard to MLB career, HOF

July 10, 2018

Julio Lugo was a shortstop and second baseman on the Brooklyn Youth Service League team that won the 1994 AAABA Tournament championship.

Lugo earned MVP honors on a team loaded with talented future draft picks and pro players.

After 12 seasons in the major leagues, Lugo is headed into the AAABA Hall of Fame Class of 2018. The induction ceremony will be on August 4 at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Center in Johnstown.

Lugo will be joined in the Class of 2018 by his  younger brother Ruddy Lugo, who played two seasons in the majors, and Johnstown’s Maurice Berry, who played in four AAABA Tournaments.
