AAABA Hall of Famer Joe Scheuermann of New Orleans is about to receive a prestigious honor in Louisiana.
Scheuermann will receive the 2016 Eddie Robinson Award presented by the Sports Awards Committee of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.
The award is presented annually to an athlete, coach, team or athletic administrator in Louisiana who demonstrates the qualities most associated with Grambling legend Eddie Robinson. Those are outstanding achievement in athletics, academics, sportsmanship and citizenship by maximizing the use of limited resources.
Scheuermann was recognized for his role in building the Delgado Community College baseball program into one of the best at the junior college level. The Dolphins have advanced to the National Junior College World Series three consecutive years while winning 10 Region XXIII conference championships in the last 11 seasons.
The AAABA Hall of Fame inducted Scheuermann in the Class of 2007. He and his family, including his late father Lou “Rags” Scheuermann, have been part of the AAABA Tournament for 65 years. Overall, the New Orleans franchise is celebrating its 70th year of AAABA.
