New Orleans Boosters pitcher Brooks Vial earned the Most Valuable Player Award during the 71st AAABA Tournament in Johnstown.
Vial won two games as New Orleans went 6-1 to earn the franchise’s 14th AAABA Tournament championship. The Boosters beat Boston BASE Astros 13-2 in seven innings on Sunday night to win the title.
Vial (2-0) had 14 strikeouts in the tournament. The left-hander who is headed to Virginia Commonwealth University pitched 16 1/3 innings and had a 0.55 ERA. He allowed only one earned run, while giving up 10 hits and five walks.
The Boosters won their first title since 2009.
Youngstown Creekside Crocodiles player Billy Goodall won the AAABA Tournament batting title, going 10-for-16 for a .625 batting average in four games.
Three players tied for the tournament RBIs title, with eight runs batted in apiece.
Goodall joined Boston BASE Astros players Frankely Gonzalez and Miguel Lorenzo in earning the RBIs honor.
Columbus received the 2015 AAABA Tournament Sportsmanship Award.
