Three franchises remain in AAABA Tournament

August 15, 2015

Altoona Wise Trailer Sales defeated Johnstown Martella’s Pharmacy 7-4 on Saturday night to advance to the final day of the 71st annual AAABA Tournament.

Altoona (4-1) will face Boston BASE Astros (4-1) in a rematch of a game Boston won 9-8 on Friday. The game will begin at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium on Sunday, August 16.

Johnstown was eliminated from the tournament with a 3-2 record.

The Altoona-Boston winner advances to face New Orleans (5-1) at 4 p.m. in the title game. New Orleans has won four straight games in the tournament since falling to Philadelphia 5-3 on Tuesday.

Altoona finished as tournament runner-up in both 1994 and 1999. Boston is making its first appearance in the AAABA Tournament.

New Orleans has won 13 AAABA Tournament titles, the most recent in 2009. The Boosters have finished as the tournament runner-up 11 times. Three of their championships have come from the elimination bracket, including six years ago.

New Orleans is celebrating several milestones of AAABA Tournament titles in 1955 (60 years), 1995 (20 years) and 2000 (15 years).
