Three JCBL players, AAABA Tournament alums selected in MLB Draft

June 6, 2019

Three Johnstown Collegiate Baseball League players, including the closer who recorded the final out in the 2018 AAABA Tournament, were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.

Martella’s Pharmacy closer T.J. Adams, a Central Cambria High School graduate who pitches at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 27th round.

Adams recorded the final out via a swinging strikeout in Martella’s Pharmacy’s 3-2 victory over New Olreans Boosters in the championship game of the 74th annual AAABA Tournament. Adams won the Point Stadium Play of the Year honor for the game-ending pitch.

Another Martella’s Pharmacy product, left-handed pitcher Trey McGough, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 24th round. A Ferndale High School graduate and pitcher at Division I Mount St. Mary’s, McGough earned a second straight All-Northeast Conference honor this spring.

Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors Connor Perry, who played for PCCA in 2018, 2016 and 2015, was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 28th round. A Norwin High School graduate and University of Pittsburgh product, Perry was part of the AAABA Tournament runner-up Paul Carpenter team as the Johnstown-2 representative in 2016.
