AAABA Tournament in the News: Former tournament pitcher Trey McGough making his mark with Altoona Curve

July 31, 2021

Trey McGough’s name has appeared in the Altoona Curve lineup since the beginning of June.

The Pittsburgh Pirates 24th-round draft pick in 2019 earned a promotion to Class Double-A and has shown improvement throughout his stay in Altoona, including winning his third game of the season on July 27.

McGough appeared in two AAABA Tournaments, recording the final out for Johnstown Martella’s Pharmacy during the 2016 opening night game against Baltimore, and tossing 6 2/3 innings in a win over Altoona Johnston Realty on the third night in 2017.

The local Ferndale Area High School graduate is a fan favorite with the Curve, and GM Derek Martin even said the team sees a significant attendance bump on nights the left-hander pitches.

Credit to the Altoona Curve for the game-day lineup photo from earlier this season.

A feature-length story by Mike Mastovich appeared in the July 31 edition of The Tribune-Democrat. A link to the story follows:
