AAABA Tournament Title at Stake! Defending Champion New Orleans vs. Johnstown on Saturday at Sargent’s Stadium

August 6, 2022

The 77th AAABA Tournament Championship Game is set!
Two-time defending champion New Orleans Boosters (4-1) will face Johnstown Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors (4-1) at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point.
Paul Carpenter defeated Brooklyn Cougars 10-5 in a Friday night semifinal round game at the Point. New Orleans punched its title-game ticket with a 10-3 victory over Johnstown-2 Martella’s Pharmacy during a Friday afternoon contest at Sargent’s Stadium.
New Orleans has appeared in the tournament championship game each of the past five Augusts, including this year, and in six of the last seven title contests.
The Boosters won in 2021, 2019, 2017 and 2015.
The 2017 victory was against then Johnstown-2 Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors. In 2018, Johnstown Martella’s Pharmacy defeated New Orleans in the championship game, delivering the host city its first-ever AAABA Tournament crown.
This will be the Paul Carpenter team’s third championship game appearance. In addition to the 2017 setback to New Orleans, Johnstown-2 Paul Carpenter finished as runner-up to Zanesville Junior Pioneers in 2016.
This will be the Johnstown franchise’s ninth appearance in the title game. Including Johnstown-2, it will be the city’s 11th team to advance to the final round of the AAABA Tournament.
New Orleans has won 17 AAABA Tournament championships, with the first of those titles coming in 1948. The Louisiana team has appeared in 76 AAABA Tournaments.
After finishing the 2021 and 2019 tournaments with identical 6-0 records en route to the AAABA Tournament championship, New Orleans is a combined 16-1 in its last three trips to Johnstown entering the title game on Saturday. There was no tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
