Play Ball! 77th AAABA Tournament opens Aug. 1

The 77th AAABA Tournament will begin on Monday, August 1 with 16 teams competing in pool play through Saturday, August 6 at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point and outlying fields throughout the Johnstown region.
Defending champion New Orleans Boosters will return with another solid squad from Louisiana.
Runner-up New Brunswick Matrix also is back.
Johnstown Collegiate Baseball League champion Paul Carpenter Capital Advisors will host the night games at the Point, while local playoff runner-up Martella’s Pharmacy will play the afternoon games at Sargent’s Stadium as the Johnstown-2 representative.
The field also will include Altoona Cumming Motors; Brooklyn-1 Cougars and Brooklyn-2 Bonnie Rams; Buffalo Royal Printing; Cleveland B2Bulls; Columbus; Maryland State Crabfest; New York Rockland Pirates; North Carolina Disco Turkeys; Philadelphia Bandits; Youngstown Creekside Crocodiles; and Zanesville Junior Pioneers.
Afternoon games will be played at noon at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point; Roxbury Park; Westmont Hilltop High School; Forest Hills High School in Sidman; Lilly Washington War Memorial Field; Mount Aloysius College in Cresson; and Portage’s Haschak Memorial Field.
The official opening night game at the Point will begin at 7:30 p.m. The remainder of the week’s night games will begin at 7 p.m.
AAABA Tournament baseball fans will have an opportunity to see the upgraded Sargent’s Stadium, with new artificial turf, new LED lighting and an upgraded sound system among the amenities.
The players banquet and pool play pairings ceremony will be held on Sunday, July 31 at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.
