A busy Sunday put the 77th AAABA Tournament on track to opening day.
Players for the 16 teams in the pool-play tournament officially registered on Sunday morning and afternoon at the Holiday Inn in downtown Johnstown. Players watched an introduction video that reviewed rules and guidelines for the tournament.
On Sunday evening the annual players banquet was held at 1st Summit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial. The featured speaker was Mount Aloysius College baseball coach Kevin Kime, who played in the 2001 AAABA Tournament on the runner-up Johnstown Galliker Dairy team.
After the meal and Kime’s presentation to the players, managers, coaches and AAABA Ambassadors, the national AAABA Board and Johnstown Oldtimers Baseball Association had the traditional “bingo-cage” pill drawing to assign teams to their pools and then make pairings for the games in each pool Monday through Wednesday.
After the pairings, a meeting was held to assign fields to the games.
